Wessex Cyclo-Cross League 2009

Wightlink/Offshore Race Team With a renewed enthusiasm Sean Williams of the BAE Systems/ WightMountain Wighlink/Offshore race team restarted the season in round 7 three weeks ago after an early season rib injury picked up in the opening round at Swindon, then aggravated at the Bike Blenheim Palace 2009 event a week later. On an unexpectedly fast course at War Memorial Park, Basingstoke three weeks ago Williams finished in 11th place from around a total of 80 or so riders. A week later at the Grand Prix of Southampton it seemed the form was starting to come back. The Wightlink rider spent the first few laps battling for at top 15 position in horrendous, wet, and muddy conditions. Often Suited to this style of riding he soon found the additional training gained from the recent weeks starting to come good , eventually finishing in 7th position overall from 60 or so finishers.

Yesterday the league moved further north to Cowley, in Oxford. Williams continued to improve, this time finishing 5^th overall in another large field of riders

This coming weekend sees Williams back at Southampton for the South of England Cyclo- Cross championships and promises to be a high quality event with several of the South’s best riders signed on from across the region, stretching from Chichester right down to Cornwall.
