I found myself hooked on cycling about 3 ½ years ago after going out on a few rides just as a means to regain some basic fitness. I quite quickly reached a level of fitness where I was able to join the local club and do the odd time trial. My first season was in 2006, which looking back on would maybe be described as mediocre at very best. I had previously ridden in my youth, competing mainly on the track, of which I had a small degree of success at national level, so I knew I was capable of more, with the aid of extra determination and some serious training.
The 2007 season can be reflected on with a success. I was soon in a position to compete with and on the odd occasion even beat some of the best riders on the Island. I also took the Vectis Roads 5, 10, 25 and club championships.
With my natural competitiveness and confidence in my ability as a bike rider, twinned with recently becoming a member of the Wightlink/WightMountain Race Team, I am sure 2008 will see me reach my next target of being competitive at national level.
